Buying supplements wholesale means buying by the case from a distributor instead of by the unit from a store. For a supplement shop, a gym or an online seller, it is how you get pricing that leaves room for a margin. If you have never opened a wholesale account, here is how it works, step by step.
1. Get your business details ready
Wholesale distributors sell to businesses, not individuals, so expect to be asked who you are before you see pricing. Have these ready:
- Your business name and the address you will ship to
- Where you sell: a store, a gym, a website, a marketplace or an import business
- Your website or Instagram, so the distributor can see your business
- A resale certificate or tax ID, if you have one
Rules on resale certificates and sales tax differ by state and by country, so check what applies to you. Some distributors require a tax ID; at Legacy Supplements it is optional.
2. Decide what you want to stock
Start with the categories your customers already ask for. For most stores and gyms that means protein powder, pre-workout, creatine and aminos, plus quick sellers like protein bars and ready-to-drink shakes. Our supplement categories guide covers each category in more detail.
Then pick brands your customers recognize. A known name sells faster from a shelf than an unknown one, and it needs less explaining. You can see the brands we supply on our brands page.
3. Apply for an account
Most wholesale distributors use a short application. At Legacy Supplements you can send the wholesale application or message us on WhatsApp with your business name, Instagram and website. A sales rep follows up with pricing for the brands you want.
4. Understand case pricing and minimums
Wholesale prices are quoted per case, not per unit, and every product has its own case size. Power Crunch bars, for example, come in boxes of 12. Before your first order, ask your rep three things:
- the minimum order for a new account
- whether you can mix brands and flavors in one order
- how pricing changes as your volume grows
At Legacy Supplements, one order can mix brands by the case, and your rep confirms minimums and volume pricing when your account is set up.
5. Check how the product reaches you
Ask where orders ship from, how long delivery takes, and how damaged or short shipments are handled. If you are outside the US, ask whether the distributor prepares export paperwork and delivers to your freight forwarder. Our how it works page explains how we ship from Miami across the US and to 30+ countries.
6. Inspect your first order
When the order arrives, check that:
- seals are intact and labels are original
- batch codes and expiry dates are printed on each product
- the quantities match the invoice
A good distributor wants to hear about any problem right away.
7. Reorder what sells
After a few weeks you will know your fast movers. Reorder those by the case, drop what does not move, and add new flavors or lines as customers ask for them. A distributor that carries many brands lets you do all of that on one account.
