Your members already buy supplements every week. A small, well-chosen shelf at the front desk keeps some of that spending in your gym. Here is how to choose what to stock and how to buy it wholesale.
Start with grab-and-go
The easiest sales happen right after a workout, so start with products members can buy and use on the spot:
- Protein bars, such as Power Crunch, sold by the box of 12
- Ready-to-drink protein shakes
- Energy drinks, such as C4 Performance Energy from Cellucor
Keep drinks cold if you can, and put the shelf where members pass on the way out.
Add the monthly staples
Members who train often restock the same products every month. Carry a few of each:
- Pre-workout: C4 from Cellucor, Psychotic from Insane Labz or Outlift from Nutrex
- Protein powder: Gold Standard 100% Whey from Optimum Nutrition or Syntha-6 from BSN
- Creatine: an easy add-on that almost every serious lifter uses
- Aminos and hydration: BCAA and EAA powders for members who train long sessions
Two or three flavors per product is plenty to start. Let your sales tell you what to add next.
Keep the shelf small and fresh
A front-desk shelf works best when it is tidy and fully stocked. Start small, reorder what sells, and put older stock in front so it sells first. Check the expiry dates when each order arrives.
Keep pricing simple
Round prices are easier at a busy front desk than odd amounts. Keep them in line with what members would pay at nearby stores, so the shelf feels like a convenience rather than a markup.
Buy wholesale, by the case
Buying by the case from a distributor is what makes the margin work. Look for a distributor that:
- carries the brands your members already know
- lets you mix brands and flavors in one order
- sells to businesses only, so it is not competing with you for your members
